First day at Adobe. New team, new faces to interact with. New pesky manager who was after me to get me started right on day one. To top it all, a whole new technology that sounded more like a fiction from nuclear science.

The best way to familiarize myself with ColdFusion was to build a simple application out of it. I set out to build an employee management application. Three days, was what I gave myself to build this app as I had no idea of the underlying technology.

With all the java stuff running through my head, I ended up searching for ‘JDBC + ColdFusion’. It was then that I hit upon the CFQUERY tag. This cool tag had everything I was looking for. The usage of the tag was the simplest it could ever get. Never before had I seen something so straight forward unlike the nitty-gritty of database interaction I was exposed to, all centered on- Setting up Connection, Prepared Statements and a hell lot other unprepared statements!

I set up the tables in the database and had the crux of my application built. It just took me a few hours before I wrapped my application on the very first day I set out to build it.

This one day was enough to create a lasting classy impression on the technology I was going to be so actively involved with in the times to come.

No matter how many more love to chug on rails or no matter what supposed to be ‘amazingly cool’ new technology comes up, people will continue to love ColdFusion. And Scorpio, for the power packed release that it is going to be, will surely add the thump.

Well, in reality it turned out that my manager is a sweet guy, just as sweet as the CF team. Right Guys?
